Dubai, captured in the eye of a desert storm. These collections of photographs are taken from the perspective of a passenger, as they make the journey through this desert metropolis. The exhibition begins with, a drive through the central business district, which follows the line of the Monorail train, and eventually fades into a landscape portrayal of the desert. The black and white imagery, creates a cinematic vision which reflects the city's on-going inspiration to be the greatest and finest. As a result of the desert storm, a distinctive fog covers the surrounding skyscrapers, creating a mystical atmosphere. To visit the slideshow exhibition CLICK here.
'Drive by Derby’ project was created from the Magnum Workshop Derby (March 2011) held by Magnum street photographers Bruce Gilden, Richard Kalvar and Chris Steele-Perkins. Through the mentoring from these photographers, this workshop provided the opportunity to shoot and later publish a portfolio of the work, and exhibit at the Format International Photography Festival. The playlist comprises of 8mm Kodak film video footage captured in the early 1980s of the streets of Bombay. Framed through the eyes of a taxi window the "Padmini" as the taxi was known, takes us along the busy inner streets of the city and along Marine Drive, with the footage finally showing a glimpse of the famous Taj Mahal considered then as one of the finest hotels in the East.
Leading to the late 1980s, Singapore had the highest number of vehicles per capita amongst most Asian countries. The 2nd film footage is a glimpse of a journey along the roads and highways infrastructure surrounding this fast and developing. city,
Lobatse is a small town in Southern Africa, about an hour away drive from Gaborone the capital. This footage was taken in the late 1970s of the town and its surroundings.
Lastly Swaziland's highveld region captured in the mid 1980s is the last footage as part of this playlist Road by Film.
Wellawatte, a suburb of Colombo, has some of the highest temperatures recorded around 40°C (104°F) and humidity levels exceeding 75%. During the civil war (1983-2009), several Tamil families moved to this area and has resulted in the highest population of the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka. This street photography captures the vibrancy of Wellawatte today, as a busy and densely populated suburb, containing many restaurants, textiles and jewellery shops. (view slides here)
‘Life in Life’ focuses on capturing the unique and imperfect moments of contemporary life. This particular photographic expression provokes an intimate tone in documentary photography, as it provides a brief glimpse into an individual’s life. (view more here)
A diverse cross section of East London, from the rise of modern tall buildings in Hoxton to the residential suburbs of Bethnal Green. This is a 60 second edited down video footage of this part of the capital.
